What a amazing impressive trip it was indeed !!!
I was overwhelmed from the hospitality of my new
Rolex friends from Asia. Thanks YOU very much guys!!

One of the reasons I came to HK was because a great Rolex collector
with a mindblowing collection and really fun guy got the first example
of the Hillary Tenzing Edition: 01/88 personally delivered at home ;-)

As his vintage Rolex deserves to be published, that interesting I found it
I can't share any pictures untill now with you, a problem i've always, maybe
1 day I mix it all in 1 big book ;-) Untill then, this pic isn't bad either ;-)

Allthough I tried to arrange a much bigger meeting
it ended up with most old friends that came by having
some drinks at the skybar of Upper House Hotel. Not
easy to get everybody together in a short time but for
next my next visite, I really like a GTG with you asian!

Paul and his team where taking care of me perfectly once
I arrived in HK, many thanks to you guys! specially Patrick;-)
Honestly, i'm still surprised that all auctionhouses don't offer
more of their vintage Rolex at their HK sale...the time I gained
after a quick look I spend on checking out and studying the new
& old PPC's at Christie's, who sold again very strong with $ 18mil.

Just getting used to the ritme of HK, It was already time to move on. Next stop
was Macao for only 22 hours !! where my good friend Eric Ku attended the DFS -
Master of Time show with a stunning area full of perfect vintage Rolex...

to fly to Malaysia and meet a great friend in Borneo ... And No, before
you start, it was not Orchi, lol! Instead it was the best eye candy Orgie
ever for me!! ;-) I'm happy at least I can share following 2 super rare
vintage Rolex with you guys!! Enjoy the pictures....

Hi Dirk,

Thank you Philipp for explaining, but I have to bother you again....
So 35 are only mock ups for display? They wouldn't be able to dive (ahh, they would dive, but they are not water-resistant?) So only 10 real ones would have made the way down to the Mariana Trench?

No Dirk, the later display models of the DeepSea Special where actual
copies of the last example Rolex made for the Trieste dive, that means
they were fully waterproof and possible would withstand same pressure,
only big difference with the earlier DeepSea Specials is, that they where
still in development, once Rolex started in '53 they didn't design the case
for 11.000 meter deep from '60 dive as their first dive was to 3150 meter,
some examples had already problems with decompressing and movement
imploded thus Rolex needed to change the design, when they were looking
up close at build of the new submariner at Krupps steel, they adopted the
bol shaped window for their glass and special case back with deeper grooves
to turn it close very tidily...Allthough those displays never had any action, it's
the closes thing to the real deal Rolex gave jacques Piccard to test for them.
The rumor that it was attached to the outside of the Trieste, is not true. Capt.
Don Walsh told me when I met him 1/2 year ago in Geneva that nobody of the
US military ( by then, the owner of the Trieste) was aware of the Rolex on board,
It was attached to the stairs just under the opening of the entrance, slightly protected
to the enormous pressure but still, as it was not inside the sphere where the both
pilots where protected, it withstanded the enormous pressure from deep down...

Here's the only known picture that shows jacques Piccard holding the DeepSea Special
