Hi,
From time to another I wonder why all this hysterics about the Daytona? Why do people spend huge amounts to get this watch? Is it the history of it, its "beauty", "moneymaking" or what?
My opinion is that its neither "beautiful" nor cool - it's more or less an illusion. I find the sub, sea-dweller and gmt much more cool and the datejust much more "beautiful".
So folks - why buy the Daytona?

Claus

If you don't want it, don't buy it - simple as that.
It's a nice watch but highly overrated... ;)

Everyone knows there are only 2 ways to get a Daytona because its supply is strictly limited: (I am not considering the alternative of putting your name on the waiting list of an authorized dealer and wait for several decades):
1) pay a mark-up of several thousand Euros to get it immediately
2) buy 2 platinum DDs and get one Daytona for free
2) If you own one, the public can conlcude that you are personally known by a dealer which is sort of equivalent to spending a reasonable sum for jewellery on an ongoing basis -> you must be successful in your profession
or
1) You have enough money to spend 8k EUR for a watch which has a retail price of 5.7k. Therfeore, you openly show your disregard for hard-earned money which undoubtedly proves that you are successful in your profession
In conclusion, the only reason is to show-off. :D :D :D

Daytona: the watch no one can get and everybody has.
New retail is 6.1k Euro, isn´t it?? So the markup isn´t that high :D

The Daytona,i am talking about the stainless steel model,is totally underrated for its beauty.Rolex should do a price markup to 10k,so jewelers could discount it at 9k.The only people i hear complaining about the watch are those, who don`t have or can`t get one. These are quite a lot,i admit.

I had one last week, I thought its not worth the hype around. If one doesn`t know the hype, its a watch you would estimate much more cheaper.
Its not better than a Sub oder a SD.

Hi guys,
I was also thinking about buying the Daytona. My reasons why I decided
against were the following:
1) I am not willing to wait a couple of years and support the intended
marketing strategy of Rolex.
2) The watch lacks the two most important features I expect from a
chronograph: date and 2nd timezone. Actually, I do not need the
timer feature at all. On the other hand, I need the date and timezone
frequently in business and as a frequent traveller.
3) For the same price I get better chronographs fullfilling my
requirements. 6k-8k EUR are definitely to much for this watch.
I won't buy it just because it is a Rolex

Funny, isn't it?
I don't like Chronos plus I won't ever pay more then the MSRP for any product plus I dont like polishes bezels that equals: No Daytona for me.

until i saw the daytona steel the first time i thought i need a watch with date but now.......it is "just" a beautiful, perfect watch and my target is to buy one as soon as possible :gut:
for the problem with the 2nd timezone....put one at the right and one rolex at the left arm :D :D
or the cheap version: use the gmt :]

Everyone can buy a Daytona, look f.e. at www.ebay.de, search for Daytona an buy it.
But talking is cheaper than buying.
"Talk is cheap." THE best english figure of speech... =)
Ahh, BTW I've got the Daytona-Status right now. ;)

Rumlabern kann jeder, kaufen halt nur ein paar, was hauptsächlich am Preis liegt. Wer kaufen kann, bekommt auch eine.
Besser so?

Hi Folks,
Nice to hear your opinions - it seems that it's very hard to come to an understanding of why spending tremendous amounts on this watch.
Besides making money I can't find reasons to buy this watch :D . I don't want to spend a penny more than list price for such a watch. Why? I don't like it - and I definately don't like the strategy of Rolex. To me Rolex "works" in two areas:
Sport and Adventure: Sub, GMT, Sea-dweller, Explorer.
Business: Day-date, Datejust, Date ...
Daytona = ??
No, I agree on some of the points of view. It's completely overvalued and as time went on everyone has it. it's not even special anymore ;)

Sorry, but I don´t see hysterics!!
There is a Rolex Chronograph and more people want to own it as Rolex can or will produce. So they pay more than the listed price because they don´t want to wait several years. That´s all!
The watch itself is a very good chronograph, stable in it´s worth, has a high image and many people want to own it, so there are also many reasons to own it too.
So we shouldn´t name an mormal watchmarket process hysteric. IMHO.

Rainhard
