One of the rarest fish in the sea…

This is a very rare example of the iconic Fifty Fathoms dive watch by Blancpain. The Barakuda is believed to have been made in only 150 examples and we are confident that this is one of the nicest out there!

Often these watches were issued to the West -German armed forces , the Bundesmarine .

The 40mm straight lug case is in superb condition, having benefited from a refresh by Blancpain in 2014 as part of a full service. The dial that is only found on the Barakuda is matte black with rectangular hour markers with red on the outside edge. The dial is flawless. The original bakelite bezel is also in incredible condition. Finding examples like this in this condition is not easy, this is a very special watch indeed !In 2014 the watch had a complete overhaul by Blancpain, including a service of the cal AS 1903 -r337 automatic movement when the balance spring, regulator and shock proofing unit were replaced.
The documentation includes before and after pics, reports on the radioactivity of the watch and a full analysis of the watch in the form of books and A4 photographs. This is an incredible collectors’ package! Since this rare Blancpain was serviced by the brand in 2014 it has been in a private collection and stored in a safe. For this reason, we have chosen not to open the case.
