Weiss jemand warum die Air-King so heisst?
Ist es als Pilotenuhr erst gebaut?
Seit wann gibt es sie?

Das würde mich auch interessieren. Ich habe am Samstag sowohl eine Air King wie auch eine Date Just anprobiert und bin jetzt völlig unentschlossen. Ursprünglich wollte ich immer eine Lady Date Just in Medium haben, am Arm fand ich die Air King jedoch fast schöner...

Das Problem ist, dass - meiner Meinung nach - die Date Just einfach die schönere Uhr ist.

Vielleicht helfen mir ja weitere Informationen und Eure Meinung bei der Auswahl.

bei der datejust hast du auf jeden fall die größte auswahl an zifferblättern, so dass du im laufe der zeit immer relativ einfach "eine andere" uhr haben kannst

Es rührt wohl wirklich aus der Fliegerei her,
da Rolex der Royal Air Force mal Uhren geliefert hat (~ 40-50 Jahre).

Zur Geschichte der Air-King hilft vielleicht dieser englische Beitrag weiter:

"Hi Folks;

After WWII, Rolex revised the whole of their range after the introduction of the Datejust as their new top of the line model.

Several new models were introduced and many others were renamed, the Oyster Royal remained as the most expensive manual wind model, but now that the Perpetual was well established the Oyster Royal was no longer was a top of the line watch. Before WWII, Rolex had always been the favourite watch of long distance flyers and the fact that it had become the watch of choice for Battle of Britain fighter pilots made an impression on Hans Wilsdorf. He chose to honour these flyers with a new line of manual wind Oysters; they were new because (like the new Datejust) they were much larger than the previous manual wind watches, in order to fit in with the new look. In fact we would now consider them on the small side as they were 32 to 33mm diameter.

The new range of watches bore the names “Air Tiger”, “Air Lion”; Air Giant” and “Air King”; they all used the legendary 10.5 hunter manual wind movement with 15 jewels and no shock protection on the balance staff. The Air Giant was the largest of the 4 watches and like the rest, was available in steel, steel & gold or low carat (9 or10k depending on the market) gold.

These watches remained in production from about 1958 to the early 1950s but never really proved popular and were dropped from the catalogues. Only the Air King remained and that gained an automatic movement. Since then the Air King has kept its place in the Rolex catalogue as the least expensive gent’s Oyster Perpetual. Nowadays it is only available in stainless steel, but up to the late 60s it was available in low carat gold, steel & gold and in a gold filled top steel back configuration as well as a full size version in all three metals known as a ref 5504. ..."

Zur Frage Air-King oder DJ: Meine Freundin und ich haben uns einfach beide gekauft. :D

Meine Freundin fand die AK für sich zu groß, deshalb hat sie die Medium-DJ genommen, wobei hier das tolle Jubilee-Band den Ausschlag gegeben hat. Die Lupe fällt hier auch nicht so groß aus wie bei den Herren-Modellen.
Mir gefällt die DJ auch richtig gut.

Letzlich ist die Entscheidung immer eine reine Gefühlssache.

Sonia, hast Du die DJ mit dem Jubilee-Band probiert? Meine Freundin war davon total begeistert. Besonders die Bandschließe in Form einer Rolexkrone ist einfach genial.

die AK ist auch eine meiner absoluten Lieblinge, da ich aber auch die DJ sehr schätze, habe ich halt beide Modelle.

Als echter AK-Fan sollte man aber zusätzlich noch die recht seltene AKD haben !

Ich bedanke alle echt herzlich fuer eure Auskunfte.
Ich planne eine AK kaufen und wollte was von der geschichte der Uhr mal lernen.
Ich bin in der mit dem blauen ZB verliebt und die 3,6,9 Zahlen.
Sonia du sollst mal die mit dem rosa ZB sehen und die 3,6,9 Zahlen, wirklich schoen.
Und ohne das Datum hat die Uhr die perfekte Symetrie was im Auge sehr schoen blinkt.
