Hi!

We proudly present some of the latest models from Rolex. A big “Thanks” to Grenat for his very fast informations.

I tried to translate the informations into English. So please forgive me the mistakes. School has ended long time ago.

__________________________________________________ ____

Short info:

In this thread, you will find the most important News from Rolex. Miscellaneous models, for example those who only got a new dial are not listed in here. Still not listed ;-)

All pictures, as not especially mentioned are scans from the Rolex press kit.

Partly, the pictures are resized or trimmed and do not correspond the complete picture from the press kit.

Furthermore, there are for example no pictures of the white 116400 in the press kit. Those pictures should show up very soon as there are enough members who will go to Basel and take pictures.

Mistakes in writing and failings in the functional description which is held in green writing are account of Grenat.

In addition, a big “Thanks” to Percy for his help in editing this thread.

Brief description:

Hour- and minute hand, as well as the small second at 6’o clock position show the current time. Current time can be adjusted by pulling the crown to its first position. In this position, the current time can be set in both directions. The small second hand stops automatically when the crown pulled out of the first natch and will start again when the crown is pushed back. The crown of the Yachtmaster II only has one position as there is no date function.

The chronograph works equal to this in the Daytona model. Pusher at 2’o clock position for the Start / Stop function and pusher in 4’o clock position for zero reset.

Also, the pusher in 4’o clock position is used for synchronization and for setting the chronograph minute hand.

The chronograph minute hand acts as a countdown (max 10 to 0 minutes).

(Picture: Grenat)

http://pics.r-l-x.de/picserv/files/2/forum/BASEL_2007/b07rnsc_05.jpg

Example:

The chronograph minute hand stands on position 10. Now you use the start pusher of the chronograph. The chronograph second hand moves forward. The minute hand shows simultaneously a countdown. After one minute, the chronograph minute hand stands at position 9.

Concrete example- sailing regatta:

The chronograph minute hand stands on the 5 minutes position, the chronograph is not activated.

Five minutes before the regatta start, a cannon shot announces that there is only one minute left to the pre-start. Simultaneously to the cannon shot you press the start pusher.

Four minutes before the regatta start, there will be one more cannon shot, the pre start. At this second cannon shot, it is possible that the chronograph is not conform with that cannon shot.

If the chronograph second hand is still before the end of the first minute but already after the 30-second mark at 6’o clock, you simply can press the zero reset. The chronograph second hand jumps automatically to the 12’o clock position and the chronograph minute hand jumps forward to the 4 minute position.

If the chronograph second hand already passed the 12’o clock position by the second cannon shot, but still is before the 30 second mark, pressing the zero reset sets the chronograph second hand back to the 12’o clock position and the chronograph minute hand back to the 4 minutes position.

In this way, synchronization with the start (cannon shot) is made. After this synchronization, the chronograph runs without stopping down to the 0 minutes position. The display of the current time will not be disrupted.

Now, the skipper can rely on the fact that, if the chronograph second hand comes to lie on the 12’o clock position and the chronograph minute hand stops at the 0 minutes position, the regatta start will take place with a third cannon shot. By that, he knows very fast, if he should near the starting line or better turns around his yacht once more for not risking a jumped start.

After the regatta start, the chronograph second hand continues to run as the chronograph minute hand stops at the 0 minutes position.

If the chronograph stop function is pressed, also the chronograph second hand stops running. Pressing the zero reset, the chronograph second hand jumps to the 12’o clock position as the chronograph minute hand jumps to the 5 minutes position.

http://pics.r-l-x.de/picserv/files/2/forum/BASEL_2007/b07rnsc_06.jpg

How to program the starting position of the chronograph minute hand?

The chronograph function is not active. Turn the bezel so that the Yachtmaster II writing locks at the 3’o clock position (90 deg. rotation). Now, press the zero reset. The pusher stays locked. Unscrew the crown but do not pull out! Now, if you turn the crown clockwise, the chronograph minute hand can be brought to the preferred starting position. From position 10, it jumps back to position 0.

After setting up the chronograph minute hands starting position, you can screw back the crown and turn back the bezel. By turning back the bezel, the zero reset pusher automatically gets unlocked and jumps back to its normal position. Now, the Yachtmaster II is ready for a new countdown.

I adore the Yachtmaster, but the new Yachtmaster II is a joke..... maybe, if the bezel would be more understatement, it could work in my eyes..... the yachtmaster II signature on the bezel is ridiculus......

The case diameter of 43mm is to big for me..... but its envouge to have cases in 42-43 mm...... =(

Prof. Rolex

Have a closer look at the functional description from Grenat for the Yacht-Master II. It seems, that the new caliber 4160 is the most complicated moevement ever built by Rolex. Also the necessary coupling between bezel, crown, snapping-in pusher at 4 and the movement is highly complicated and has never been seen on a Rolex. Assuming such a complicated movement is combined with the typical robustness of a Rolex makes it much more remarkable. So congratulations to Geneva for this mechanical masterpiece.

By the way, congratulations to the RLX-Team and P. for their well organized todays event. Many thanks also for their efforts to make RLX the most professional rolex-forum worldwide.

Greetings

It is difficult for new people to reply.

1. They must register to post and Administrator approval takes time.

2. The registration procedure is in German. That will prevent many from joining.

3. All the buttons to reply and edit posts are in German. That will also discourage people from replying. (Maybe they do not know which buttons to press)

So, not many replies.

I like the new GMT master2 in steel, and the new air-king.
The new yachtmaster is not really my cup of tea, i prefer the "old" one.
Ik hope there will be more bezels (pepsi and red/black) in the future for the GMT2.
I am happy the LV is still in production, so maybe i can buy one in the near future, if it would be discontinued it would become to expensive for me.

Based on the scans of yesterday, I am very impessed by the Milgauss, the S/S GMT II isn't that bad also. YMII: :(

The pics of the new Datejust and Air King dails (see German topic) are a bit of a shock!!!! Call me an old fool of 31 years old but I'm going to miss the 'Precision' writing on the Air-King dial....

I have no plans of ordering the Milgauss (at least not yet :]), but I went by the Rolex juweler in The Hague, Netherlands this afternoon anyway. The Milgauss isn't expected before Christmas (!) 8o. Prices aren't available yet....

Just one final remark: I'm glad the 14060M Sub is still in the disply window in Basel :gut:

There seem to be some difficulties in making a bicolor bezel because the material of the inlay is ceramic. The color separation is the reason. I hope that this problem will be fixed soon and I´m looking forward to a blue/red GMT II(I). ;)

Why can't they make 2 half-inlays. A first half in blue, the other one in red. :grb:

These could be assembled one next to the other, so as to obtain a complete ceramic Pepsi inlay. :D
