In 68 the Marine Nationale issued a batch of 25 watches for their combat divers officers.
They will issue 75 more in three other batchs ( 70/73/75) .
30 years later, things have changed M.N. combat divers and officers were issued Casio G- shocks .
Here are the brothers in arms:

Hi Karli,
Original tropic in 20mm are almost impossible to find. They were used on the Marine Mationale watches butmostly on the Tudors as the 5513 M.N were issued with the original 9315 folded Rolex bracelet.
Best,
Eric

that is very interesting that there is a double stamp of the watch number. are all the 5513s like that and are the 1665MNs like that also?

Gunten tag Shark!
This double stamp is very rare as only watches from the 1968 batch and very few from the 70 batch have the issue number also stamped on the lugs.
As far as I know the rarest ( of the rarest) 1665 M.N. do not have this feature but I learn everyday.
Cheers,
Eric
thanks for introducing and be happy for this unique 5513. :gut:

:op:Well Theo, actually the Casio was doing a much better job than the Rolex for a combat diver.
They are not watch collectors , they are professionnal and they need the best tool possible.
Plus when they had to choose money was an issue but not the only one in that case.
In the 80's the German Kampschwimmers switched from Blancpain 50 Fathoms (expensive) to a titanium IWC Ocean 2000 (very expensive). I know it caused quit a stir when some political people discovered how much a single watch costed...
Best,
Eric

Hiya Eric,
Thanks a lot for your explanations. I can well imagine that money was a considerable issue when acquiring a bunch of watches - how many pieces are we talking about?
From the look of the two different watches I gathered that the Submariner would be a lot easier to handle. In fact, the Casio seems to me a lot of fiddling about ;). But of course you are absolutely right, that they are not watch collectors.
However, the Submariner looks just fantastic! :verneig:

Hi Theo,
The M.N. issued circa 100 Rolex 5513 in four batches between 1968 & 1975. Maybe only 50 are left today.
The M.N. issued circa 250 Casio in 1997/1998. They were real action watches:

Hi Eric
Thanks for the info :gut:! The pictures definitely give proof of the fact that the Casio is field-tested ;).
What type of strap is there attached to the Submariner? It looks like one from a Fifty Fathoms :grb:
Kind regards, Theo

Hi Theo,
It seems he 5513 from the Marine Nationale were issued with rolex band 9315 originally. Though a lot of them were worn with "Tropic" plastic bands . Those band were availlable at the Rolex AD and are very hard to find today.

Salut Eric
That Tropic strap looks very sophisticated! :gut:
I seem to have found a Tropic-style strap on ebay:

unfortunately it's only 16mm
